Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy speaks during a joint news conference with President Donald Trump following a meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club, Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, in Palm Beach, Fla. (AP Photo) Russia claimed Ukraine tried to attack Russian President Putin’s residence with drones, but Ukraine denies the allegation, calling it a “complete fabrication” aimed at disrupting peace talks. This claim comes after the US President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Florida to discuss a peace plan, with security guarantees for Ukraine being 95% agreed upon.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the claim was “typical Russian lies” and argued that Moscow wanted a pretext to continue its actions in Ukraine. In a post on X he said, “It is critical that the world doesn’t stay silent now. We cannot allow Russia to undermine the work on achieving a lasting peace.”
I spoke with President of Finland @alexstubb. As always with Alex, we discussed the diplomatic situation, our opportunities and prospects, and the outcomes of the meetings with President Trump and his team. We are preparing new meetings in Europe, and it is important that…

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Ukraine launched 91 long-range drones at a state residence in the Novgorod region. According to his statement on Telegram, cited by the BBC, he said all the drones were intercepted and there were no casualties or damage.
Lavrov also said Russia would “revise” its position in peace talks because of what he called “state terrorism”, though he added that Moscow did not plan to leave the negotiating process with the United States.
The allegation came after talks in Florida between the President Donald Trump and President Zelenskyy on a revised peace plan. Zelenskyy said the United States had offered security guarantees for 15 years and told reporters. He said unresolved issues included territory and the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
Russia controls most of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, known together as Donbas, and has previously rejected parts of the peace plan.

The White House said President Trump later held a call with Putin. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said Putin told Trump about the alleged drone incident and that the US president was “shocked” and “angry”. When asked if Washington had seen evidence of an attack, Trump said, according to the BBC: “We’ll find out… maybe the attack didn’t take place that’s possible too.”
