24-year-old Jerrssis Wadia made headlines on Saturday with his imperious hitting in the Big Bash League clash between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heats. While his team lost by seven runs chasing a target of 180 runs, Wadia’s onslaught of 22 runs in his first four balls against Jack Wildermuth is now a talking point from the game.
Coming at number six after Jamie Overton’s wicket, Wadia needed no invitation and smashed Wildermuth from the word go hitting three sixes and one four in the first balls.
However, he couldn’t take his team to the finishing line and got out in the 19th over to Wildermuth after scoring 34 runs in 16 balls.

Indian connection
Wadia is a player of Indian origin with his parents still living in Mumbai. He was part of the Adelaide Strikers U19s programme before Covid struck.
He has been a regular part of the South Australian Premier Cricket circuit since the 2022/23 where he has played for Adelaide, East Torrens and Tea Tree Gully.
A bowling all-rounder by trade, Wadia was signed as a local replacement player for Alex Carey.
Head coach Tim Paine said Jerrssis was a welcome addition to the squad.
“Jerrssis is a huge talent and we’re excited to see what he can do,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity and it’s a great sign for the Strikers Academy that he has been able to come through.”

This was second game for Wadia in the league. He had a poor outing in the first game where he scored seven runs of nine balls and bowled two overs for 20 runs.
As per the Cricket Australia website, he has accumulated 680 runs with a batting average of 56.67 and a high score of 123, while taking 19 wickets in the South Australian Premier League.
Adelaide Strikers are placed seventh in the league table after the loss against Heats. They have won one game and lost two out of the three played till now.
