Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Republican Congresswoman, who recently broke ranks with Donald Trump, said the US President should first fix everything domestically, and then talk to the rest of the world.

Greene, the Georgia representative who was once Trump’s closest ally, accused him of betraying his own ‘America first’ promises.

“For an ‘America First’ president, the No. 1 focus should have been domestic policy, and it wasn’t. And so, of course, I was critical, because those were my campaign promises,” Greene said in a CBS News 60 Minutes interview. “Once we fix everything here, then fine, we’ll talk to the rest of the world.”

How Greene fell out with Trump

The 51-year-old, who was first elected to the US Congress, announced last month that she will resign in January 2026, a full year before her term comes to an end.

In recent months, Greene has emerged as one of the few critics of Trump within the Republican Party. She broke ranks with the party on the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), Epstein files, immigration, and also criticised the US President for inviting Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former Al-Qaeda leader, to the White House.

“I think they’re terrified to step out of line and get a nasty Truth Social post on them,” she said, while speaking about other Republicans, who have mostly towed the party line and have defended Trump.

Though Greene had been making her discontent clear, her most visible distancing from Trump was in her efforts to release the Epstein files, when she became one of the four Republicans who signed the discharge petition.

Greene recounted a phone call in which Trump tried to persuade her to back off the discharge petition effort involving the

“We did talk about the Epstein files, and he was extremely angry at me that I had signed the discharge petition to release the files,” she said. “I fully believe that those women deserve everything they’re asking. They’re asking for all of it to come out; they deserve it. And he was furious with me. … He said it was going to hurt people.”

“I call myself America First’

When asked if she was MAGA, Greene, who’s worn a MAGA hat many times before, said she’s America First.

“MAGA is President Trump’s phrase. That’s his, his political policies. I call myself America First,” she said.

Threats after fallout with Trump

Since her public fallout with Trump, Greene said, life hasn’t been easy.

“I got a pipe bomb thrown at my house, and several direct death threats on my son,” she said. “The subject line for the death threat on my son was exactly what Trump said, ‘Marjorie Traitor Greene.’”

When asked what her next step was, Greene said she has no plans.

“I have zero plans, zero desire to run for president. I would hate the Senate. I’m not running for governor. I’m not one of those politicians with a long list of political plans,” Greene said.
