Vidarbha batter Dhruv Shorey equalled compatriot N. Jagadeesan’s record for the most consecutive centuries in List A cricket after scoring his fifth ton on the bounce, an unbeaten 109 off 77 balls against Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 second round at the Sanosara Cricket Ground in Rajkot on Friday.
Shorey’s streak of five centuries stretches back to the knockouts of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where the top-order batter struck centuries in the quarterfinal, semifinal and final. His ton led the way for Vidarbha in the final, but the side eventually lost to Karnataka in the summit clash. Shorey began the season with another century, a 125-ball 136 against Bengal. However, it went in vain as Bengal chased a mammoth 383 in the opening round on Tuesday.
With 494 runs in eight innings at an average of 70.47 and a strike rate of 92.68, Shorey was the second-highest run-getter for Vidarbha during the last VHT season.
On Friday, his unbeaten 107 helped Vidarbha beat Hyderabad by 89 runs.
Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batter Jagadeesan’s five consecutive centuries came during the 2022–23 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which also included his record-breaking 277 against Arunachal Pradesh.
Shorey’s teammate in Vidarbha during the last season, Karun Nair and Karnataka’s Devdutt Padikkal have hit four consecutive List A centuries. In international cricket, Kumar Sangakkara’s four ODI centuries on the trot are the most by any batter. Among Indians in ODIs, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have struck three centuries in a row.
