Last week, Lalit Modi hosted a birthday party for Vijay Mallya who turned 70 on December 18 and posted the video on X.

Lalit Modi, in the caption of the video wrote, “An amazing celebration for my dear friend Vijay Mallya at my house last night for all his friends and family who flew in from all corners of the world. Another cornerstone achieved by the King of Goodtimes – his 70th birthday. Wish him all the happiness and success.”

Fugitive businessman Mallya left India on March 2, 2016 after his Kingfisher Airlines collapsed and legal troubles started. Mallya is currently wanted in India as he is an accused in a bank default case of over Rs 9,000 crore. Mallya was declared a Fugitive Economic Offender in January 2019 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

His companies, including United Breweries (Holdings) Ltd are under ED, CBI and SEBI’s scanner on the charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy, money laundering and diversion of loan funds which were lent by several banks led by the State Bank of India (SBI).

Lalit Modi left India in 2010 when allegations of him being involved in money laundering, tax evasion and others cropped up. ED registered a money laundering case against Modi and a special court in Mumbai issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him in 2015 over allegations of money laundering.
